Welcome Page Jack Smillie, Inc. is a third generation family owned and operated candy and fancy food wholesale distribution company located in Woburn, Massachusetts. John Smillie, the original "Jack" in Jack Smillie, started working in the candy business delivering candy to stores by horse and buggy in the Boston area beginning in 1918. The company was incorporated in 1934 and acquired business premises in the heart of the candy industry on Main Street, Central Square, Cambridge, Massachusetts. Upon Jack's death, his sons, Howard Smillie and Clifford Smillie became the owners of the company. In 1980, under the leadership of the current President, Howard Smillie, growing pains led to a move to a new 20,000 square foot warehouse in Woburn close to the major transportation arteries. Howard Smillie has steered the company for decades and been honored with a place in the Hershey Candy Hall of Fame, named Candyman of the Year by the Boston Confectionery Club and served two consecutive terms on the National Candy Wholesalers Association Board of Directors. Shortly after the move to Woburn, Howard Smillie launched a fancy food line with the private label "Weathervane Farms" featuring New England specialties such as clam chowder and red pepper relish. The fancy food line also includes many imported items ranging from chocolate, teas, cookies and jams to sardines and celtic salt to name but a few items. A showroom displays a fraction of the nearly 7,000 items handled by Jack Smillie's. Hand in hand with the remarkable variety of products is the commitment to service to its customers. Howard Smillie states that while some customers have been with them since 1946 they are attracting new customers everyday. It has been a challenge to maintain the product line that established customers expect and to provide and anticipate the needs of its newest customers. Jack Smillie's has proved that it is more than up to the challenge. The third generation consisting of Brian Smillie, John Smillie and Allan Smillie are continuing to meet the challenge of supplying their customer's needs in an ever changing industry.
